當希臘政府和歐盟的新紓困協議進入關鍵倒數計時之際，許多手中還有點現金的希臘人，此刻寧可購買名牌貨花掉，也不願把錢存放在銀行裡，以免存款大縮水或貶值。
這幾天，希臘高檔精品店和電器與科技用品店出現了搶購人潮。一些希臘中產階級由於不知道明天以後會如何，像是歐元價值是否會大幅下滑，希臘是否會回到使用德拉克馬時代等，索性現在趕快先大肆採購，把手中現金變成較可保值的物品。
48歲的律師蘇菲亞考慮以現金購買一個香奈兒名牌包。這是她過去從未想過的奢侈品，現在卻變成了新的投資，因為「你會覺得金錢正逐漸失去價值，變成只是數字而已。」
像蘇菲亞一樣有類似想法，對銀行體系感到不信任的希臘人愈來愈多。希臘人現在面對的一個問題是：當下就趕快把錢花掉，還是，看著它的價值逐漸消失。
對於25歲的克里斯而言，答案再簡單不過─「現在就買！」而且「只買最好的。」他的原則是，「既然他們想把我的錢拿走，那我就先把它花掉。」從希臘銀行上周關閉以來，雅典市區精品購物店的生意反而興盛。一家電器用品店出現搶購熱潮，人們刷卡購買洗衣機、洗碗機等各式家電，連店中展示品也被迫出售。
相較於希臘出現債務危機之初，人們拿著珠寶名錶販售，換取現金，如今情況恰好相反。人們現在拿錢購買金幣寶石，求取保值。一名雅典會計說，驚慌失措的希臘人，甚至急切地想趕快把稅金先繳掉，因為不知道是錢會貶值，或者稅會上漲，「我現在有一堆客戶，大排長龍。即使要付4萬或5萬歐元的稅金，他們也選擇一次繳清。」
據希臘媒體指出，銀行上周關閉以來，大約有4萬到5萬人因而失業，或暫停工作。希臘生活在貧困中的人約占總人口的44％。至於富人，則早已設法把資金轉到海外銀行。
